         DataLink Notes v2.5
        ---------------------
         December 12th, 1989

Starting with v2.3, the DataLink
software is now supplied on both 5.25"
and 3.5" disks.

On the 3.5" version you will get a menu
which will allow you to choose between
the DataTerm software, the Online 64
software or the DataLink utilities
programs. From here, the menus are
basically the same as described in the
manual.

DataTerm History:

Versions prior to v2.0 were called
"DataLinker" and only supported the
DataLink 1200 bps modem.

[2.00]
  Works both DataLink modems. Adds
Screen Terminal Emulation. Creates
and saves DL.CONFIG file from OA-M
settings.

[2.01]
Supports the new DataLink 2400 bps
modem and adds a MACRO command to set
the baud rate to 2400.

[2.05]
  Enhanced support for non-Pascal 1.1
standard printer cards (supports BASIC
firmware printer cards).

[2.06]
  Changes made to prevent occasional
loss of charactors during clock reads
on some IIGS computers.

[2.07]
  Fixes some timing problems with
TransWarp GS and other accelerator
cards.

OnLine 64 History:

[1.00]
  Initial release. Requires 64k Apple
][+ capable of running ProDOS.

[1.01]
Fixes lower case display problem in
v1.0 (only happens on Apple ][+'s).

[1.50]
File commands are now in a separate
program. The files required to run
OnLine 64 are: ONLINE64, AMPERWORKS,
DATALINK.DVR, MODEMWORKS, CONFIG.OVL,
and FILE.OVL. You must have all of
these files in the same directory.
  Adds defaults for many prompts.

[1.60]
  Adds screen terminal emulation
when run on an 80 column //e or IIGS
computer. This feature is not sup-
ported on the Apple ][+. Terminal
Emulation is accessed via congfigure
options command.
The 'I'nfo command has been changed
to 'A'bout. It still displays the same
program info.

[1.70]
Fixes bug encountered when trying to
change from 1200 bps to 300 bps with
the DataLink 1200 bps modem only. Does
not affect the DataLink 2400 bps modem.
No longer requires prefix to be set
to the directory in which OnLine 64
files are kept.
View command will now display an 80
col. catalog on 80 column //e or IIGS.

        Changes to the Manuals
       ------------------------

    DataLink Communications Manual
     (v1.0 & 1.1 Software Manual)

Note: These changes have been included
      in the v1.11 manual

Pg. 4

The heading "AE Communications Menu"
has been changed to "AE DataLink Menu"

Pg. 14

(MY.DISK/DLSTUF.1) should have a
leading slash in front of 'MY.DISK'
ie: (/MY.DISK/DLSTUF.1)

Pg. 15

Open Apple-Q (Quit DataTerm)

You now have 3 choices when you choose
this option. They are:

   Q Quit and disable port
   E Exit with port active
   ESC Return to DataTerm

Pressing 'Q' will hang up the modem and
exit the program. 'E' will exit the
program and leave you connected to a
remote computer (if you had established
connection). ESC (escape) will return
you to the DataTerm program.

See the new MACRO commands for QUIT.

Pg. 20

New Command
Open Apple-I - Initialize

The OA-I command does the same thing as
a control-reset but without dropping
carrier. This is useful if line noise
puts you in inverse or somehow turns
off the 80 column display. OA-I does
not read your dl.config, dl.startup or
dl.macros files. It will display the
opening DataTerm screen and prompt you
to press space to continue.

Pg. 21

The order of the entries on the Open
Apple-M menu has been changed.
It now reads:

[1] Root Directory: /DL/
[2] Autosave File: DLTEMP.1

[3] Buffer: Auto
[4] Append: True
[5] Debug: False

[6] Printer Init: ^I80N

[7] DataLink Slot: 2
[8] Data Format: 8N1
[9] Terminal: TTY
[0] Time Constant: 10

The 'ECHO' selection has been renamed
'Debug' in hopes of causing less
confusion. This command is used to
'Debug' your MACRO files.

Pg. 22

Option [7] is now Option [5] and has
been renamed 'Debug'. Debug is used
when you are 'debugging' a macro (or
command) file. Set it to 'TRUE' to
have all macro commands 'echoed' to the
screen, and set it to 'FALSE' for
normal operation.

New Feature: Time Constant: 10

This feature is used to adjust timing
loops in DataTerm to your computer's
speed.

Calibrating this value will ensure that
if you have a 'PAUSE' or 'SET TIMER'
command in a macro, it will PAUSE or
WAIT for the number of seconds you have
set.

In order to set this value for your
machine, we have provided a macro on
the disk that will beep three times
with a ten second pause between beeps.

This macro can be accessed by pressing
CLOSED APPLE-T.

Pg. 24

When typing the AT command to turn off
AutoAnswer (ATS0=0), make sure you type
a number zero (0), not the letter (O).

Pg. 42

Start Macro Maker

The Macro Maker program is on the front
side of the DataTerm disk, not the back
side as noted in the manual. Macro
Maker now supports 2400 baud.

Pg. 46

EXIT

'EXIT' will exit the DataTerm program
and leave the modem active.

Pg. 48

QUIT

Quit will also deactivate the modem as
you quit the program.

Pg. 51

New MACRO command.

STATLINE ON
STATLINE OFF

This command controls the status line
display. Some terminal emulations will
overwrite the status line if it is left
on.

Pg. 61

OnLine 64 requires that the prefix be
set to the directory in which its files
are located in order to run. After you
have run OnLine 64 you can change the
prefix to whatever you wish by using
the 'Change Prefix' command in the FILE
commands section of the program.

To those of you that want to write more
advanced macros than what the MACRO
MAKER program can do for you, please
refer the file 'MACRO.HINTS' on the
front side of the DataLink Comm. disk.
